solex 4a1
On the base of the carb viewed from the front is the two idle mixture screws, in the middle of the base between idle mixture screws is a largers adjustment screw. What do you adjust with this screw?

You must have a later european version. US models didn't have that.
I am pretty sure it is a air screw for engine speed, sort of a throttle bypass. Could be wrong though.

There's something like 11 adjustments on that carb. Rather than pulling at straws, take the manual in hand and spend a few hours walking through all the steps.
Short-cuts and mercedes tend to not appear together in any sentance that contains a happy ending, especially when a solex 4A1 is thrown in the mix. The shop manual on CD is about 30$ from mercedes at 1-800-for-merc. It contains dozens of pages on this carb and all its varients over the motor's 10+ year run. -CTH |
