You can buy R12 on ebay for little money. Should get a can for about $20 so it's not too bad. Just make sure the system is tight so it doesnt leak away.

It's a SAnden SD-508 - I think there is another version for R-134a but as far as I know they're the same except the SD-508 has fittings on the compressor body (which I needed due to a peculiarity in my hoses, one of them was missing a fitting).
