the sixes are common with sticks.

if so then they surely offered it cause they ralleyed them.

Mercedes had no homologated manual box for this car so they used production 3-speed auto's. They tended to do well in long rally's through sheer reliability rather than outright speed...as you can imagine in a 2 ton car.

I was talking worldwide, U.S., Europe and all other markets. 500 is indeed a 117 motor as is a 4.5 but I still contend neither ever got a stick. There was no need to have two V8 sticks and the 116 motor had them. The 4.5 motor was solely for the U.S. market and emission regulations, at least in 1973, and we certainly never got a V8 stick. If a model got a stick it would show up on the worldwide EPC and it doesn't.

It's been for sale for quite a while. I was in contact with him weeks ago. At the time he didn't really know what he had - he was just reading off the trunklid. I suggested that he get a data production card, don't know if he ever did. By the way if there is anyone interested send me a private message, I will take a look at the car and take some pictures.

Check the VIN when you go looking. As stated earlier by CTH, it should have -10- in the VIN instead of -12- if it is a factory manual. 10 is for manual, 12 for automatic.

It would also need to be a 107.024 to be a 450.

The M116 3.5 V8 came with a 4 speed manual option. I own a 73 350SE which has one. If this is a V8, then it's probably a 350SLC that's badged as a 450.
