two 108 questions

Hello again fellow garage dwellers,
Just a couple of questions regarding the w108..

Regarding the air filter, my 250se was australia delivered, which was deemed, perhaps rightly so, a dusty climate, and is therefore fitted with an oil bath style air filter, rather than a paper element type, as in europe and in the US, am I right on this? if so, is their a power discrepancy between the two models? while incredibly well built, there is simply so much wire for the air to get through I've wondered if the alternate filter would offer noticeably more power, or would it be negligible?

Secondly, would a '67 250se have come fitted with a safety triangle in the boot?

I don't know about the triangle but here is a link to the Russian parts pages for the air filter.

Air Cleaner W108 250

Hi Benziger,
I am new to this Forum having just bought a 1966 250s . I live in the south East suburbs of Melbourne.

I expected to find like you a paper Air cleaner element in my M108 motor's air cleaner. When I opened it up I found it was an oil bath air cleaner. I thought this is great. An oil bath air cleaner is better than a paper element one. Rememeber that Air cooled vw's in the african desert used them to keep out fine desert sand particles in WW2.

The reason that they stopped supplying them (Merc) is that they are messy to maintain as well as more time consuming to clean and more expensive to make. On the upside the oil bath is a great air cleaner plus you have the bonus that you dont have to buy paper elements. I dont know if they reduce horsepower but I cant see that they would as the wire wool mesh is not that densly packed.

Regards
Mark. (Melbourne Australia).
