M110, Thermostat, Running temps...

recently replaced the Thermostat in my old W114, as the temp guage seldom got to 175 degrees....

Now the temp guage sits EXACTLY in the centre of the range, The engine comes up to temp Much quicker, seems to use less fuel and I swear, runs smoother and quieter......

Anyone else seen anything like this or have experience similar....?

they are designed to run a temperature. if you are running too cold that is not a good thing.

you gave it what it wanted!

mmm hmm! I had the wrong thermostat in Brunhilda when I first got her. She ran about 10 - 15 degrees too hot at a sitting-in-traffic idle. Made me real nervous.

Amazing how the right thermostat fixed that. Oh - overfull radiator and coolant at too high of a concentration as well.

Engine is designed to run at a certain temp, so of course changing the temp makes it not run right!
