Cruise Control : W116 : Not working

My cruise control doesn't work. does nothing at all.

here's the condition of things.

Tach doesn't work, might be sensor or amp.
cruise control stalk switch is pretty loose.

Where do I start?

The tach is probably an amp issue. Try pulling the module and jamming some paper or foil or foam at the top and press it down putting pressure on the contacts.

As for the CC amp, those things burn out all the time, you can try to remove the case and resolder the connections.

My cruise didn't work either . I really don't use it but as I am going through the car fixing and replacing I did a search in this forum and found info on the brake light bulb(s) as being a possible culprit.

Your brake light bulbs must be Oshram or Bosch only. The cruise picks up a critical ground signal from these designs. Without the signal, the cruise will not work.

I found I had replaced one of the bulbs several months ago with the usual 1157 you can get at any parts house. Bad choice.

Make sure all of your brake light bulbs are only Oshram or Bosch.
