Shifter location of the 280SE 108

Which V-8 powered W108s had the shifter on the column as opposed to the center hump?

Back then, IMHO, it all depended on how the car was ordered. I have seen W108 V-8 cars with both console and column shifters. Heck, I even saw a late '70s 450SEL with a culumn shift auto once.

I think the floor shift is much more common.

I know that the 3.5's and the 4.5's had both column shift and floor. The 6.3 only came with a floor shifter

Sunroof, column shifter and V8. Black exterior, Bamboo interior.
All the trim, seals, badges are in the trunk. Car was painted five yrs ago and never re-assembled.
I saw very little rust or evidence of repair. Seller says it ran well and everything worked when it was parked five yrs ago. Dash wood looked rough but complete.
Its going to need a bit to get it back together so it may be a parts donor if I find a better one.
I never found out what yr it was in my rush. Hopefully I can get a better look Sat (with trailer in tow).

Nice find, I hope you can save it from being a parts donor.

It's probably a '72 or a early '73 if it is a USA 280SE.

It's a SE, I believe. I was in a hurry and there was a lot of stuff piled up around it.
Had a quick peer thru the windows and lifted the boot to look for rust, missing parts.

Man, they don't even look like the same car when they're stripped of the chrome.

I stopped and had another look this afternoon. It appears to be a '73.

Plate on the radiator support says:

466 491 519 589 593
040 G (black?) --- 0
108 068 12 7 (068 makes it a SEL, right?)
0 14364 95376

Whew... its going to need alot of attention. Mouse nest on top of the air breather, no headliner and all the trim is off the body and in the trunk. (I hope)

Seats were ok but, cloth so I am guessing they have been recovered. Wood bow is shot, rear window seal is missing. (pulled it to paint)

All the glass is in good shape, heater levers are intact and the carpet looks pretty good. Transmission was rebuilt before it was parked. All the wheel covers are there and in decent shape as were the tail lights and the trim I saw.

I worry about the damage the mouse may have done to the wiring. I lifted the air breather and noticed one spark plug wire chewed. Nothing else that I could easily see.

I should trailer it home as soon as it stops raining. Who know when that will be.
