Old Mercedes will make you crazy!

Sometimes you have to wonder about us old Benz owners. We can and will do the most insane things.

A case in point. I just spent the last three hours pulling the heater core out of my '73 280.

Normal? It's June 14th, in Tucson, 103 degrees F, in the sun. Am I doing it to fix the A/C? Nooo, I'm doing it because I am tired of seeing the bypass I installed when the core started leaking last fall.

I'm tempted to not clean and oil the fan just so I can re-do it next winter but pulling the box is enough fun for one lifetime.

Many an old Benz went to the boneyard cuz of a leaky core or a bad blower motor..
You put up with it for a while , but then something else starts acting up thats gonna cost a few $$$$ and it comes right back to the core/blower being the deciding factor ......

I've been questioning my critical thinking skills since I bought my Benz, too.

I hear that! My Chick recently mentioned that for all the money and time I've put into this car, I could have been making fairly high car payments on a more current off-lease car!

I'm pretty sure that high CO levels in the exhaust, and that which undoubtedly leaks into the passenger compartment is at least partially to blame for much of the "unconventional" thought processes of we old MB owners

I didn't say the A/C doesn't work but for some reason I'm fixing the heater core which we use every fourth year here in Tucson. Es no muy calore aqui! In July it will be "fumar"!

Summers here always bring to mind the words of Slim Pickins in "Blazing Saddles".

"You boys are all lollygagging around like it's 120 degrees, cain't be more than 114 in the shade!"

So you're AC works, yet your fixing your heater core? I'm not sure if that makes you more or less crazy than what I first thought.

This is why my repair bills come out of my pocket and aren't discussed with my husband.

He doesn't need to know how much the custom seatcovers I got from "The Great Sheep" cost either.

They look really good in my "Euro cheese and wine tote-ing social-mobile"

After living in Houston for the past 38 years (born and raised), I can say, without and question or doubt, that YOU ARE INSANE. Atlanta summers probably feel like the Carribean.
