72 280 se transmission problems

i am haveing problems with my 1972 280 se's automatic transmission.I haven't had the car very long. when i got it the modulator had just been changed. but it shifted harshly. now it shifts extremely late around 5000 rpm but is no longer harsh the only thing i did was recharge the ac I dont understand what happened
