I own a 1963 220seb with column change. I`m from the uk and wish to use my fintail for touring and plan on doing alot of milage. At 16mpg and nearly £4 per gallon ($8) an engine transplant is a must. I am wishing to put a mid 90`s 2.5 ltr diesel or better still a modern 220 CDI unit with auto or manual transmition. Sourcing an engine and box is not a problem, i presume that the more modern the engine is, the more difficult it will be. I have looked at Fat Franz`s blog and find it very interesting but would prefer a more modern engine. Any advice on other diesel engines would be greatly appreciated.

there are lots of threads in this area about engine swaps. Walter Klatt put a late 80's 2.5 diesel into a 230sl. Your car is similar under the hood. -CTH
