2007 Vanderbilt Concours in Newport, RI

Thought I'd share the photos from this past weekend's Concours in Newport, RI. There were quite a few MB cars entered and MB Classic Center brought along some interesting machinery.

Mercedes-specific photos here:

Complete gallery here (watch out, there's 200 photos there!):

Of particular note to this board was this car:

I'm wondering, was this the actual car? I question it because there was a full, immaculate interior in it and in a proper racecar, that's the first to go!

It really depends if they were advertising it as the real deal or not. It sure looks real on the outside, and the real car has been in the magazines a lot lately - it wouldn't surprise me if they've been carting it around some shows. The only thing that throws me is the interior shots - it had to have been redone after its racing days.

The 6.8 is a recently constructed replica. The original car was sold to a aviation company who utilized it for product testing. There's a bunch more info over at m-100.cc.

Here's a youtube clip of the thing firing up - sounds naaasty:

Thanks! That's what I thought since the interior was just too nice and it was missing certain race-only items like a fire system.

A nice, thorough replica though! I'm impressed they put that much effort into it.
