Auto transmission kickdown: Disconnected?
I might have to disconnect the Auto transmission kickdown linkage with my Weber conversion.
What will happen, besides having to down-shift manully for passing, if the kickdown is disconnected?

automatic transmission kickdown
Why is that one must disconnect the kickdown switch when doing a Weber conversion? Just wondering as my '64 Fintail underwent a Weber conversion and the kickdown function doesn't work.

'Bootleg' Weber install
I didn't use the kit, only a Weber carb, a home-built adapater plate and custom linkage (most of which was the original).
Saved a bunch of $$$, but I've been busy with body restoration and now, neglected brake system. Gas tank is full, with Stabil added. I don't need the car on the road until June, 2008. I might be able to adapt the kick-down lever later, if I have a problem not dowshifting.

you mean the lever on the side of the transmission that hooks up to the throttle linkage? Leave that off and you will destroy the transmission. The idea is that it moves before the butterfly does so the transmission knows you're going to be hitting the gas. Bad things happen when that's not working right and transmissions cost a lot more than carbs.
The original linkage on the side of the motor is rigged up so that there is about 5mm of travel before the pedal movement impacts the carb. That's there to allow the transmission linkage to do its job. -CTH |

Thanks for the info
I'll remember the 5mm movement of the kick-down linkage, when I adapt it to the throttle linkage.
