a/c question, 1974 280c w/inline 6

just got this car for 800$$
trying to diagnos a/c system, I can engage the clutch by powering the compressor itself, and there is power to the low pressure cut-off switch.
truoble is the other wire coming off the switch is a dead short!!!!
it is also a dead short at the compressor, which I have dissconnected for now. my question is, is this a striaght thruogh wire from switch to compressor, or is it run thruogh the switch or some module or relay first?
when I turn the dash control knob, the light comes on and the wire powers up to the low pressure switch, so could I just bypass the wire, or is it more complicated than that?

I believe the the pressure switch goes to a relay and the relay powers the compressor clutch.
