Question 1972 4.5 Skipping

Hello

My 1972 280 SE sounds like its running on 6 cylinders. How can i tell if it's fuel or
electric, related? Thanks

Take off the air filter housing. Spray starter fuild in the hole then start. If it runs for a minute then stops, it's fuel. If it doesn't run at all it's ignition.

Ignore my last post. It applies if it doesn't start at all. If it runs rough it's probably ignition. Check the distributor cap for carbon tracking inside and out. How old are the igntion wires. How long have the plugs been in there. Pull wires in turn with it running if it makes no difference that plug isn't firing.

Try pulling the injector electrical conectors one at a time to isolate the cylinders that are not firing. If it is a pair of cylinders then it may be injector signals missing. If you cant identify particular cylinders at fault then its more likely to be ignition related.

When was the last time you cleaned your trigger points? Dirty trigger points WILL cause a pair (2) or more (4, 6, 8) cylinders not to fire. while it's running I usually pull wires off the cap using insulated gloves and pliers, 1 at a time, to see what isn't firing. Don't pull them off at the plug unless you like a zap.
