1967 250S steering pump question

I just got this car and one of the issues is that "steering pump" leaks per the dealer. Looking at it, it looks like it's not what I would call the pump (the part that is at the end of the steering wheel shaft) but the part that the hoses go to, the part that is belt driven on the block. If the part that's at the end of the steering wheel shaft is the pump, what is the part called that is on the block and is belt driven?

I think you're talking about the steering pump front seal. It's very common for them to go after 30+ years.

What ever happened to quality.

You need a special tool to pull the pulley... You might be able to pull it with a regular puller but I managed to break the pulley and pump with heat, impact hammer and a non standard puller.

Others have had much better luck than me.

When you say pulley, I assume you mean on the pump that has a fan belt pulley? I'm still trying to distinguish which is the pump. When I look up the part to purchase they always show the box that is at the end of the steering wheel shaft. I suspect, however, the pump (or part that I need to fix) is the one that is on the block with the pulley.

The pump is the belt driven device mounted to the engine block.

The power steering gearbox is connected to the steering column on one end and the pitman arm on the opposite side of the box.

The pump provides the pressurized fluid which the gearbox uses via control valves, reciprocating pistons and some kind of magic to transfer the fluid pressure into steering assist.

That's what I thought. When you look up the pump on Arizona ********, they show the steering box. That's why I was confused. Is it worth rebuilding or would I be better off with a new pump?

Unless there is a huge price difference or you just have time on your hands, I'd opt for the rebuilt. But then again, I just got through re-sealing my wife's 250C steering box because I didn't want to go through the hassle of pulling a used one from the junkyard.

Ok, YOu have your steering column that connects to your steering gear box

then there are hoses that connect to a fluid reservoir that connects to your steering pump, that should look like

that has a pulley that connects to the engine.

Correct?

Go here

http://www.sls-hh-catalogue.de/bin/dbframes.phtml?mid=IN02

Click on the P/S picture ..# 88 is the seal you need .
This is for 113 chassis , but they use the same part for your chassis.
It would be wise to change the filter [ #55] at the same time...

#1 is the steering box
#75 is the pump

A lot of sites have the steering box picture listed as the pump. That's what confused me.
