1967 w108 windshield wiper linkage
 

The passenger windshield wiper is not working. I have determined that the linkage has separated near the motor i.e. driver's side.

Has anyone ever repaired this? I'm having a real hard time accessing where the linkage rod connects to the driver's wiper. Any tips on how to get to it, would be appreciated. Pictures would be golden!

I can't really help much, except to say that it may be a difficult job. I just looked at a 66 190D finback a few days ago that was basically done in by a bad wiper motor! The owner is an exceptional 90 year old man who had this car for the last 37 years. He pulled the wiper motor last year and had it rebuilt. In the process he has removed the front seats, the A/C evaporator. the pedal set, all the gauges and switches on the dash. He has now decided he would rather sell the car than spend any more time under the dash....( he's still driving, though).

I've generally figured out that short of cutting a hole in the firewall, I have to go in through the dash cluster. I can't seem to reach it from underneath. The problem is, I also can't reach the nut that holds the cluster in! :eek:

After the mess I saw on the 190D, you might consider a manual crank wiper operated by the passenger......

Actually, I just fixed it. I cropped the E brake, and pushed the cluster out of the dash. After pulling down the vent/defrost, I had pretty good access to it. I will tell you though, some of the mountings in the dash are VERY poorly designed. There is, what I assume, is the rheostat for the dash lights which have the mounting screws in an impossible place to get them. I was also going to lower the steering column but the nut for that is impossible to reach as well...

I suspect that back in the day when the elves in Stuttgart were designing these things they may not have been thinking about some crazy diy individual forty years down the road trying to access the heart of the vehicle.

Even if they didn't consider the DIY'ers, you'd think they'd make it at least reasonable for the mechanics. I swear you have to have hamster hands to fix some of this.
