That would be schweet if they interchanged.. I guess i can always buy one from parts store and take it back if it doesnt work. Does anyone know which engines are relatively the same?

Found this forum 123 chassis starters


Says 240D starter and 300d are the same. I thought the 200d was the same engine class as the 240. Ill count the teeth to make sure.

Again, looking at www.car-parts.com with your car info I find everyting from 1970- 1983 220, 240, 300 D

I would take the old starter to the local shop and see if they have a bosch SR61X and see if it lines up with the right amount of teeth.

I counted the teeth and they both have nine. My uncle wants to see if he can turn it on his lathe, but im still going to try a new one, ill let you know how it works out!

If you have the choice between 240 and 300D starters, opt for the 300D. It's probly the ballsiest starter motor MB uses. Rated higher output than 240, very common upgrade.
