Purpose of thermostat temp sensor?

I have the wire disconnected for the thermostat temperature sensor (on my Zenith carbed M130).

Is this sensor just for the auxillary fan, or does it work with the choke circuit, also? Thanks in advance.

You're talking about the switch on top of the thermostat right?

It's main purpose is to enable the Aux fan, but if your emmission are hooked up it will also enable the vacuum advance to switch over at idle to assist in cooling...

Which is why when you're supposed to set the fast idle for 2600 RPM you're supposed to ground that switch.
