Supplemental Fuses W116???

Does anyone here know what the two inline fuses are for in my '79 300SD? They are located in the fuse box. They look to be factory additions but they are not listed on the fuse panel "directory" and I don't have a wiring diagram for the car. One has an 8 amp ceramic style fuse in it, the other is more like a traditional glass fuse.

Anyone know???

Also...here's a tip...when you buy a car and decide to change all of the fuses as PM, make sure the ones in there are the properly rated capacity for each circuit. I used to just exchange them (red for red, white for white) but on this car I found two which were incorrect...fortunately they were both replaced with lower rated fuses than they called for which is why the fuse for the AUX fan kept blowing...it's supposed to be 16A and was instead fitted with an 8A fuse.

It could be a real disaster (ie fire danger) to have over-rated fuses on a circuit so go check yours and make sure some pinhead PO didn't stick a 16A or 25A fuse where an 8A one is supposed to be! And if you have a circuit which keeps blowing a fuse make sure you are using the right rating for it and not one which is too low! For me the aux fan was a really easy fix!

On that car you have a in-line A/C/C climate control fuse & a radio in-line fuse.

Thanks...I guess the one in the block may just be the blower fuse as that one had been blown and when I replaced it the blower came back to life...I suppose it makes sense that the rest of the climate control would be separately fused.

Thanks.

Exactly. I did just that, I bought all new fuses (copper, not aluminum) and started to just replace all of them on my 76 450 sel and sure enough some were just wrong and it even has a fuse legend in the fuse box (idiot proof? apparently not!)

I am now replacing all bulbs in the rear for brake, turn, reverse lights) and some are osram and some are brass GE so I am just going to replace with bulbs from dealer.

The reason is, (and i've looked on the posts here, but no help) my turn signal and hazard flasher works in the am but very, very fast almost solid on, but when it warms up inside the car the lights flash normally?

Is this the relay or the different bulbs. I noticed on the GE bulb that the contact end looks like half of it melted off leaving a sloped contact and not a flat contact. Anyone know what this is?

The climate control fuse is ONLY to "park" the servo AFTER you turn the key OFF.

Yeah, the aluminum fuses are terrible. Most of them turned to white powder and broke as I removed them leaving parts stuck in the fuse holder and requiring some additional work to remove those little pieces. Now the car has all new ones and everything (so far) works except the cruise control...but I suspect that is the amp.

The wattage of the bulbs can affect the frequency of the flasher as it is load dependant. Sylvania has an online chart which shows which bulbs are recommended for where but I found their chart to be in error when it came to my cluster lights so I am suspicious of its overall accuracy...best to use the manual or just trust that the dealer knows what bulbs are supposed to be used.

FYI - here is what they say your car should use:

Talking bulbs

Marty-

Thanks. I just called the classic center and said "just give me all the bulbs I need for the rear lights" so hopefully those will be correct and i'll post here what they were. I hope i am not paying through the nose, i forgot to ask how much.

Besides a the weird fast flashing, (it does it every a.m, but no when warm, I swear that's weird) my 116 is getting there. I need new driver's seat springs and in the future carpet kit and door panels ($$$$$), but it is looking good.

Troy
