So what's everyone doing for thanksgiving?

Today i picked up a gallon of PPG onmi base coat in Astro Silver (DB735) and a gallon of clear coat and decided that I am going to spend the weekend painting the tire smoker.

So far, I removed to door and sill molding and stripped the hard window rubber from the front windshield and sanded the car down with a DA and 220grit sandpaper.

Tomorow i'll remove all the lights and the front bumper, wash it and work out the dings and chips in preparation for shooting it on Thanksgiving day or the Friday after.

Here are some quick pictures taken in the dark:

It's going to be a cold day on Thursday. Wish me luck!

That's going to look great when you're done with it, Al. If I weren't going off for Thanksgiving, I could stay quite busy with my new aquisition, putting on the parts I received this week. Oh well, every now and then you HAVE to spend some time with your family. . . .

Have a great Thanksgiving. I can't wait to see that bad boy once you've gottenn the painting done and the trim back on.

Al, didn't you already paint that car, or was that the other one?

This is a new purchase. Seats were shot and suspension had a major leak and it was about as nasty as you can get. I think someone was living in it for a while.

Replaced the seats with a good used set from eBay , replaced the suspension pump with a used one from the junk yard and now some lipstick is going on this pig.

I will say though someone converted this to R134 and it blows cold!

I'm going to split the weekend between family and projects.

Heading down to my brother in Raleigh, NC on turkey day and coming back Friday afternoon.

Biggest question right now is which car the 4 of us should take.

Take the E320 wagon, lots of room for extra stuff in the back, or
Take the W123 300D, best mileage choice, or
Take the 560SEL, the hell with mileage, this the freeway cruiser!

Seems like for the last couple of years, every time I go out of town, I;'m towing a trailer, so it's always been the Dodge-Cummins. Not that I mind it, but I'm looking forward to relaxing a bit on the drive, and you just cannot do that with a car trailer or Airstream tagging along.

Weekend will be spent on projects, likely on my 64 Lincoln convertible, which isn't charging even after a new transistorized voltage regulator. Maybe the original alternator has finally given out after only 58k miles?

That's it. 61 to 67, and the top is completely automatic and retracts into the trunk. Heck, even the trunk lid is hydraulic. All original, even the top....

Bought the car in 1974 with 27k miles, and for some reason, I've always held on to her. Met my wife in it in 75, and brought all three daughters home from the hospital in it.

Wish I'd held onto the nice 68 250SL and the banged up 63 300SL I also had years ago. Don't really miss the 190SL, though my wife does.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Unlike Ali, I'm not planning on painting any cars (but I have 2 walls left to 2nd coat in the addition my husband put on) and we are taking my 4.5 up to his parents at what used to be a lake, for Tday.

Well, I THOUGHT it was going to be a "car-free" weekend but I guess after we get back from my niece's (first Thanksgiving in 30 years we are not having the gathering at our house) on Friday, I'll be pulling the steering gear box from my 280 and removing the snapped upper mounting bolt . Sigh! It's broken off inside the box so there is no question of getting to it with needle-nosed pliers and getting lucky enough to twist it out. Of course it had to be the top bolt because the lower two you can actually reach with pliers. And yes, I have already tried to use a left handed drill bit.

We're having three sets of couple and their children coming over, so we'll have a nice crowd.

I have the front living room set up with a new 50" 1080p Panasnoic plasma tv, a new saddle brown leather sofa, and three club chairs, all arranged facing the tv.

This room will be for adults only, mainly the men. The women will likely congregate in the kitchen, and the kids will have the run of the family room / den, and the back yard.

We'll start off with appetizers of California roll and steamed gyoza, and I'll probably have a glass of Maker's Mark that I'll be sipping all night long.

Oh it's great to be an American.

Happy T day everyone

Continued today by getting some sand paper and sanding blocks as well as some masking paper and tape.

Then I washed it with dish soap and removed additional bits trim from the car and covering any pits and chips with glazing putty.

I'll have to continue sanding for a couple of hours tomorrow and wash it one last time.

There are some stickers in on the rear that I need to take care of but I cannot find my scraper!

Hopefully, it can get masked and painted on Friday (I need a box fan).

Question: On the 6.9, how do you remove the right bumperette?

Question: On the 6.9, how do you remove the right bumperette?

I was able to get mine with an open end wrench, 1/8 of a turn at a time with flipping the wrench over. You have to pull out on the bumperette as you are doing it. Its a real B. Alternately, you can unbolt the bottom of the fender and by the headlight and make a bit more room.
