Windshield Washer Pump from Autozone
Greetings - so Autozone thinks this is the right part for an '80 300SD, part number 5-861 for $13.99 vs. $$ for the Mercedes OE brand. Should I believe them? They got the low-beam headlight wrong at 7" instead of 5.75" so I'm not sure if they'll have this part correct.
It seems to me that a pump is a pump in this case, i.e., apply 12 volts, turn on pump, and squirt washer fluid. I mean, how hard is it to make a generic washer pump? Thanks, bigmaq

Well, it has to be able to fit inside the Mercedes fluid resivoir for one thing.

Why not try it and see if it works. It would be interesting info for the rest of us.

can you pull the old one and bring it for comparison?
Also I know they ususaly will not take back electronics so you might want to ask about their refund if they made the mistake...

If your old pump is integral to the reservoir you can just leave it and put the new one "inline" after the reservoir and remove the wires from the old pump and attach them to the new one. Fit isn't an issue. If you want to keep the car "stock" for collector reasons you probably have to buy an OE pump from M-B, but as far as function goes you can certainly use any aftermarket inline pump to restore washing functionality.

I looked at the technical diagrams on the MB web site and it looks like the pump is external to the reservoir and just below it. It's an inline pump attached to a mounting bracket on the fender well, so any "generic" pump may work. I will try it and see.
Thanks, bigmaq
