109 air pump question

Is the air compressor on all 109 cars the same? (300sel and 6.3)
Are they rebuildable?

thanks
Fred

pretty much the same. Different configurations for different motors. The 3.5/4.5 pumps are the same. The 6.3 & M189 pumps are different from those based on how the pump mounts to the PS pump.

There are a couple of detailed and excellent threads on the rebuild at www.m-100.cc.

For those that don't have one of these puppies to look at, the air pump is essentailly a one cylinder motor that gets engine oil for lubrication and has its crank driven externally. What would be a cumbustion chamber is just a huge airpump.
