68 or 69?

OK guys,
I have a 1968, or 1969 (I'm not sure which) 220D.
The title states that it is a 69. But the little old lady I bought it from swears up and down that it's a 68 and the title has always been wrong.
Does anyone know any distinguishing differences?

Call the Benz Classis Center in Ca and give them the chassis # and they will give you the build and delivery date, along with the Data Card.
You can also email them...

A 69 will have front seat headrests, a 68 will not.

Assuming this is a USA spec car, of course.....:)

Lots of other minor differences as the years go on, 1970 had some notable changes as well.

Mine has the headrests.
Here are some pics. I guess I should have posted them when I started the thread.

I bet she remembers buying it in 1968.

What she forgot is that she bought a 69 in 68....Oct, Nov, Dec 68.....

220D, eh?

Then it has the incorrect front bumper....

front bumber

Interesting. What does this bumper belong to?

69-72 250 sedan or 69-72 250C coupe. 73 used same bumper, but longer brackets, so it sticks out further.

Original bumper was a single bar. There should also be a chrome strip below the bumper, wrapping from front fender wheel opening to front fender wheel opening on the single bar applications. Six cylinder bumper cars (double bar) deleted the molding, as it could not be seen.

Other early clues are red rear turn signal lenses, and amber parking lights in front. 1970 and later had amber rear signals and the headlight door had a clear fluted lens in front of the amber. Also, 1970 and later had side lights, vice side reflectors. Reflectors look the same on the outside, though.

And another 6 cylinder upgrade....

250 sedans also had bright metal trim all the way around the side windows, not just on the b-pillar part. Like a W108, W116 or a W123. The 250 sedan and 250C also had a wood dash.

I'm not sure if the 230/6 had the same trim as the 250 sedan, I can only recall seeing one, and that was years ago. The 230/6 was phased out quickly in the W114 model run.

I'm confused

Very interesting Jim, but I'm confused.
So, what year do you think this is?

Maybe a 69 that was in an accident?

Or is it a Euro version with some early release features?
