Lets not forget that ethanol sucks because it competes with global food markets. Not only are we burning fuel in our cars that manipulates global food markets, but our "commander in chief" has decided that corn is the best crop to make it from. Ethanol from corn is just a bad idea. Now... if we were making ethanol from other sources (like sugar beets) then I may be less skeptical.
I am living in Washington State. There is a group of landowners that are growing corn in Grant County. While this may not seem like a bad idea given the market for corn, the reality is that corn does not grow well here. The end result is a drop in wheat supply and a resulting increase in cost. So what are we to learn from this rant? Simply this... Ethanol is not the solution to global energy demand. Ethanol sucks. |

My Benz runs like a dream on about 15% ethanol, I've heard higher octane works well for engines that used to run leaded gas. Whether or not this is true or if I even have an engine befitting that classification, I have no idea as I failed basic chemistry twice and never passed.
Either way the regular premium 91 I'm running now just isn't as conducive to my DOHC quickness as the 93 octane with ethanol. All I know is what I observe. I might not get as good fuel economy but that might be due to taking advantage the DOHC quickness I mentioned above. Also when it gets 14 mpg instead of 15 or 16 mpg, who really cares? It probably won't save the earth and it definitely won't save me any money but it will make 55 mph effortless.
