Hello All, New Guy here

I posted on the Diesel Section but thought I should post here. I just bought a 1967 200D W110. It is a rust free car and clean and all there. Doesn't run yet but I don't see why it won't. Heres a couple pictures.

Welcome and congrats! That looks like a worthy project car for sure...what's the story behind it?

When you run into issues post them here or if they are specific to the engine post them over at the diesel section and I'm sure the collective brainpower here will be able to help you solve them.

Let's see that car move really soon!

That looks like a nice car. I had a 190c fintail. One of the best cars I ever had.

Hey guys thanks so much. I am glad my friend Greg with two Benz's referred me to come over to this sign and learn a thing or two. I feel very welcomed.
I can't wait to get the car home and clean it up and start to drive it. The body is so straight and clean and everything on this car is so nice. The Odo reads 40,112K and I really believe that is correct on the car. I will post some more pictures when I get it home and cleaned up.

One question I have on the 67 W110, what kind of brakes does it have? And how alike is the chassis to the W115's?

Thats all I have for now.
Cheers

Thats the ultimate bread'n butter Benz. More than 200,000 w110 body style cars were built between 1960 and '67 (gasoline and diesel alike) literally conquering world taxi/fleet trade from Africa to Asia. Now they're sadly almost extinct. Reminds me how economy model American cars like Ford Comet, Dodge Dart, Pontiac Tempest, Buick Skylark are more highly prized as representative of automobile design then 'deluxe' version cousins. I think automobile historians agree MB 110 sedans in their day established greater global presence putting MB on the map (post WWII) than did deluxe sedans, coupes and cabriolets.

Clean it up and seek out local antique/vintage car clubs, says me. Park it next to '57 Chevy (if you dare) at monthly club diner outings and expect a rumble. In your defense, recite specs of the 200D being 52(?)HP that does 0-60 in roughly 30-40 seconds, nevermind 1/4 mile drag results.

Now if this was 190c gasoline Benz w/sunroof, I'd call it easily the most desirable VMB anybody could hope to find.

Beautiful! Congratulations on the car!
Well,it has front disc brakes and rear drum(actually, the front brake callipers are the same as on w115/w114 chassis),the disks are not(both calipers(new/reman.) and disks are widely available,so are the pads...the tie-rod ends are used on w115,w123(cheap),you don`t need to go to the dealer to find rear brake cylinders(65$$)or clutch hydraulic parts...you have more than a dozen grease points however...om621.918 engine,5 main bearings, camshaft, bearings, rocker arms same as on om615/616,pneumatically governed IP with individual oil sump, fuel and oil filter setup same as on w115 diesels(2 oil filters).
Oil sump+filter 5 liters SHPD oil
transmission manual-1,4 l. ATF (preferably Type A,suffix A)
Differential 2,5l SAE 90 GL-5 oil(wheels on the ground!!)
Water pump-SAE 90 GL-5 till oil flows out from check hole
Steering box non-assisted SAE 90 GL-5 up to a given level
Grease points NLGI 2 EP grease...
IP oil sump appr.200 ml motor oil.(when empty),otherwise till oil flows out the check hole..
Oil bath air fiter-motor oil to the mark
May want to upgrade to parallel quicker glow plugs(easy).

Have a look at "classic centre/technical literature" and and order "Early model years" vol.3 CD (20$$),was 135 $$. Lots of precious info (.pdf format)

Good luck!

Other differences - your Fintail's rear is a low-pivot swing-axle with at least two grease fittings and enclosed axle-shafts.
The W115 has a semi-trailing rear suspension with open axle-shafts and no grease fittings.

The Fintail front suspension has kingpins with metal trunnion and contol-arm bushings, and lots of grease fittings. Recommend greasing the front end immediately. If some of the fittings refuse to take grease, unscrew them and clean out the gunk/rust from the holes and fittings with a pick and spray parts-cleaner. You might be able to save your bushings.
The W115 has a ball-joint front suspension, with rubber control-arm bushings and no grease fittings.

Happy Motoring, Mark

Hey Guys thank you very much, that answered all the questions I had about the car up to this point. When it comes home I am sure there will be more.

Hey Mark, from your signature it says DrDKW, Are you a DKW guy? Motorbikes or cars?
I was just curious because I have a 1964 DKW Junior F12.

Cheers

4 years ago I sold my rusty basket-case '64 F-12 convertible to a guy in Maryland. He needed all the mechanical and interior bits to complete a gutted but rust-free F-12 convertble body that he bought from a salvage yard in New Mexico. I still have a solid '57 DKW 3=6 Sonderklasse 'panoramic' coupe.
Also a rusty '60 220Sb Fintail, a decent '72 W114 250 Coupe, and a pair of W123 240Ds.

Happy Motoring, Mark

That Lakewood wagon is rare bird. My folks had one of those when I was 8 years old. Since then (about 45 years) I could count on the fingers of one hand how many Corvair wagons I've actually seen.

In addtion to an Isuzu pickup and my daily driver Nissan Altima, I have a basket case '61 Ponton 180b and a '71 Audi Super-90 Variant (two-door wagon), as well as a '67 Sunbeam Alpine.
Unfortunately, here in the colonial Virginia suburbs, the authorities like to make things difficult for people who collect too many cars.

Happy Motoring, Mark

O cool, Yeah I know how that goes. But thankfully I live inside a 3500 sq/ft metal building. There is 9 cars inside it right now. And this is all on a 1/2 an acre so many cars are outside. Plus a few of my neighbors loves old cars so I am lucky!
