and some said it couldn't be done...

Well, it's really not done yet, but I managed to fit a fuel injected M130 into a 1971 250C. A combination that never existed from the factory (in US cars). Clearance for the manifold, injector pump and distributor were concerns but all are good. I do need to relocate the power steering reservoir, modify the exhaust, connect the fuel and electrical systems and a host of other little nightmares but I'm glad to get this far. Here are some pics of the install.
BTW the last pic is the motor that was installed by the previous owner, a M180 that seems to be good but can't be used with a M130 transmission (bad vibration) and said tranny that was rebuilt not too many years ago. Both for sale cheap if anyone is interested (and local).

Nice job! I'd be curious to see how much more oomph the car has the fuel-injected engine.

Looks like you have the typical 114 rust in the front of the rocker panels. I replaced mine last week and am getting the rest of the car prepped for paint. Are you planning on fixing?

Once I get the mechanicals up to par I will turn my attention the bodywork. Yes, the front of the rocker panels are rusty and the fenders need replacing. The rest of the car is very solid. I was looking at rocker panels from Sherman but only saw 4-door versions. I assume they could be cut. Is your car a 2-door?

What did you do about the fuel pump and the Colds Start valve circuit?

I haven't mounted the fuel pump yet, and plan to operate the cold start valve with a toggle switch.

Use a momentary On push button for the CSV,
The fuel requirements for Bosch MFI are 15 psi, but the flow has to be 1 ltr/15secs..this is a high flow rate , so the pump is important. It also requires a return line to the tank.
Also make sure you have coolant going through the Warm Running Device on top of the Injection pump.

I've seen several of these conversions.
Joe Alexander in Ohio has performed a number of them.
Calls them the microbeasts.

Seems to me that you need to address clearance problems on the belt drives. Otherwise there is a clearance problem with the radiator. Something about a short water pump, and different sheaves.....
Air filter also requires a custom installation.

I've got a 250C out in the field with a M130 from a W108 in it. PO hacked the radiator support to clear the engine, had to push the rad forward about 2 inches.

That's right about the water pump, I'm using the short one from the M180. The alternator sheave lines up fine but the power steering pump sticks out too far, the M180 bracket should take care of it. If you happen to have any pics or more info about this conversion I'd apreciate it. I wasn't able to find anything online and your the first I've heard from who has seen it done.

I bought my fenders from Adsitco and my rockers and rear panel from Sherman.

Not sure if the 2-door and 4-door fenders are the same, but a quick check of part numbers should answer that.

I bought the 4 door rocker panels from Sherman for ~$80 each. The 2 door rocker panels are in the ~$300 range. You have to do some cutting on the 4-door panels but they end up fitting quite well.

The W114 coupe did come with fuel injection with either an M114 engine with D Jet EFI or an M110 with D Jet EFI. I think you will find a performance improvements to be amazing.

Good job.

Front clips interchange between coupe and sedan.

I've got a M130 injected that came out of a 250C in the shop.
Right now it's buried in the back. I think it's set up for PS.
I'll try to get a couple of digital shots of the front when my wife gets back next week wih the camera....

Hello,
The original M130 injected power steering bracket will put the pump too far forward in a W114 chassis. I made a very simple bracket which worked fine and lined up with the original W114 pulley arrangement.

The original location of the radiator is fine once the short waterpump is used and all the W114 pulleys are installed on the crankshaft of the fuel injected engine. I modified the radiator holders to allow use of the later light weight aluminum/plastic radiators.

I got my W114 coupe to do 0 to 60 in six seconds with the fuel injected engine, four sopeed stick, and 4.09 diff. and my other modifications. It would smoke the tires at will in the first two gears.

Ha! I imagine the factory would have fitted a taller gear in the rear end with that motor.

On the 66 230s finney the rad, iirc, fitted into the radiator support frame somehow to make more room at the front of the motor. I don't know if thiis info might help some how.

It looks like a fun project. I always loved the beefy look of the valve cover on those engines.

The W110 230 (non-S) Fintail shared the short front-clip with the 4-cylinder cars, but had the radiator support notched to fit the radiator and clear the six cylinder engine.
Those also used a remote coolant reservoir, like the Pagoda 230SL.

Happy Motoring, Mark
