Reman distributors

Hi all,

I was wondering what distributors I can put on my M130? I have shaft play and I am concerned it gets so bad it cracks the rotor.

Will someting off a VW VR6 or something fit? What have others done?

I have a 231-187-003 which I beleive is a JFU-6.

Any advice would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks

This guy has a really good rep in the MG circles and I think he does work on Bosch distributors.

Couple of ideas:

Here's a guy who rebuilds Bosch distributors, I think he charges $100 or so:

I got a universal Bosch rebuild kit (including shaft bushings, which seems to be your problem) from Dan Caron (benzbarn(at)ebtech.net) for $40 or $50 and used this as my guide:

Thanks for the tips.

I contacted glen ring and he only works on cast Iron disties.

JMela,

when you rebuilt your disti, did you replace the bushing? was it difficult?

There's two bushings in the canister part of the distributor. I didn't have the proper mandrel to drive the bushings out, so I took the replacement bushings and canister down to my neighborhood mechanic. Took him about 90 seconds to do both. So, it seemed easy for him! With a small mandrel it shouldn't present any problem. The whole overhaul was a fun project.

FWIW, Dan Caron also rebuilds/ adjusts these distributors. He posts quite a bit at www.sl113.org.

Saw something on the Mallory Unilite site about a guy that used a Jag spec Mallory run backwards on his 6 cyl Mercedes....no idea how or if it worked though.

this is what you need: http://www.123ignition.nl/brand/Mercedes.html
i have one installed in my 220seb. on this car the pertronix
did not made any difference so i decided to give the 123 ignition a try.
not it revs up like a motobike and drives like a new engine.
often the distributors are worn out completely so a new one
is the best option instead of a pertronix upgrade.
especially on high mileage cars.

Your post does not say where you are from? I may have an extra distributor, do you have a part number or a photo of your distributor?

I bought the parts collection (5,000 pieces) of a mercedes restoration man... I have parts from 1950 to 1979.

I am in Houston, Texas now.

ah, but did you also get a place to put it all?

Sounds like you've got more toys than I do.

do you have anything for an M123 (euro 2.5 motor from the late 70s) in your collection?

Thx -CTH

Does this company have a distributor for a 1968 280SL w113 with the replacement distributor aluminum distributors. From what I read and have see on the you-tube video it sounds better and more cost effective than rebuilding a 40 year old Bosch design distributor.
My SL is for driving there for I would consider it a good investment not to have to rely on the old antiquated Bosch design distributor technology.

Has anyone put one on a Mercedes-Benz M-130 engine? Are they happy with the investment?
