You get more power and the economy improves as you learn to tune the set up. Because there are very few mega squirts on mercs at the moment it is really a matter of talking amongst each other to get the best curves and maps.
I did find though, that my 6.3 with the rev limit at 6000 rpm will set the limiter off at 6000 RPM in top... I don't know the speed attained, it was night and I hadn't connected the speedo cable properly when I changed the trans but I had to cover 180+kms and I did it in just over an hour to meet a boat. . So the improved ignition has it's plusses..

Hi Panzer
sorry i havent been around for a day or 2

Generally you find that a good tune will give you better performance and economy. My 450sl was getting between 10 and 11 mpg (us gallons) when i bought it. I worked mightily to tune the heck out of the djet and got her up to 14 to 15mpg average. With a reasonable tune on megasquirt (taken 2 months to get there) I am averaging 17.5mpg (thats 19.5mpg per imperial gallon) and have more power than i ever did with the standard djet. I have been playing with the tuning for the last few months and have a file that I run for the work week that gets me around 20 mpg (call it 23mpg imperial) but I would be nervous pushing her hard to above 80mph (slowly would be fine but its more a commuting tune).

the palm pilot group have been working on letting you connect to the MS with your palm pilot and I am waiting for the bluetooth connection then you can download the files on the fly.

the webpages for my 2 conversions on the mercs are in my signature. I had been sending anyone who asked my msq files (they are the ones with my actual tune) but because peoples TPS's and other sensors are slightly different that didnt work so well. so if you are interested i can send you screen captures of my settings and you can use them for your set up adapted to your sensors.

as mercmad says you really get sucked into it. I am busy fitting a pair of throttle body injectors inside my twin SU carbs for my austin mini rebuild. It tends to get into your blood.

cheers
barri
