Also, are timing chains issues on the M110 like they are on the M116s and M117s? How can I check if my chain needs to be done?

Ok. this is what I found.

There IS oil in the line leading from brake booster, but not the in take....I'll post a pic in a little bit.

New Update:

You guys just saved me a **** load of work and time. it's no longer the valve seals but it's the vacuum pump seal!

What I did was I disconnected the brake booster and intake vacuum lines and started the engine. I revved it until the point where the plume of smoke would come and oil starts squirting everywhere out of the vacuum pump!

So I bypassed it by connecting the necks of the lines and taping them with high tolerance electrical tape and now no more oil burning and I still have vacuum for the power brakes from the intake!

Thanks guys so much! You saved me a crap load of time and work!

The M110 does not have timing chain problems like other engines. I scrapped mine at 239000 miles because of rust. The chain had never been touched. I doubt that you would have much of a problem at this cars mileage.

Good to know. Now that I found out that it's my vacuum pump that gets the oil, how can I repair it?

Order the replacement/repair kit from Fastlane. It's a pretty simple though somewhat dirty fix. Good time to clean the engine before and after the repair. You're still gonna get dirty.

The pump comes apart. Remove it from the engine, after removing the lines, first. Pay attention to the alignment of the pump pieces. You can't hurt the kit but it sure is a pisser when you put the pump back on and find the hoses don't connect. Make sure you put the valves back the same direction. They are "one-way" valves.

Is there anyway to delete it or is it necessary? And is fastlane a store or is it the company that makes the kit? Do you know where I can get it? A google search came up with a bunch of other things.

Fastlane

Click on the "Buy Parts" button at the top of this website. It takes you to "Fastlane" which is an on-line parts supplier and sponsor of this site. Very helpful folks.

Sorry to have so many questions but there are a couple of different parts under the catagory "vacuum pump rebuild kit"

Are they all different or will one work?

For a "complete" rebuild, you need both the kits (the lower two pictures are the same kits). If you are lucky or are just feeling lucky, you just need the one with the round diaphragm. The little round "flappers" in the first picture are the one way valves I referred to.

I'd do the complete rebuild if it were my car.

Do I need any one of these (Cam bore gasket?)? Because the vacuum is leaking from the camshaft./

Those gaskets don't look too pricey to me. If it were me I'd try to replace everything I could while I was "in there". No sense in having to do the job twice.

The mounting plate between the engine and the pump can be sealed with either a cut paper/cardboard gasket or the judicious use of a silicone high temp style of sealant (red permatex instead of the blue for instance). There is no "vacuum" involved with the gasket. It is to prevent oil leakage.

The pump enhances the vacuum feed from the intake and does not exhaust the expelled pressure into the engine.
