8 year old gas ....any chance its good?

Its in my antique sportscar. Its amaco premium unleaded, IIRC. I added stabilizer at least two or three times. Its not in the carbs fortunately so I can drain it if necessary. Any chance I can just hook up the lines and run it?

I'd rather not drain it and dispose of it although If I have to I'll put a couple of gallons here and there in the pt cruiser, I suppose and burn it off.

And I have 32 gallons of it, unfortunately.

32 gallons in a sportcar????

That sounds like a Suburban.

IIRC Sta-Bil will only keep fuel fresh for 2 years max. I would drain as much as possible and refill with fresh.

Put up a sign in front of your house, "FREE GAS". I'm sure it will go quickly.

List it as "Genuine, original-equipment NOS tank-aged gasoline" and sell it on eBay.

Think of the bidding wars!

LOL!

It only gets 13 mpg hiway so to make a trip it needs plenty. I was afraid this would be the answer.

I'll plan on draining off as much as possible and filling with fresh.

Luckily my carbs are dry and sitting on the roof after a complete freshening eight or so years back when they came off.

I would burn it. (1) getting rid of that much gas is a pain in the ass; (2) I am thinking that it will burn ok; (3) any problems that you are going to have will be gone in 1 tank; (4) at the cost of gas now, there is little incentive to waste it. I really don't think that it will have that hard of a time burning it.IMHO

I just bought a car with 7 MONTH old gas in it and it ran, albeit badly. I put 5 bucks worth of fresh stuff in a couple days ago and the engine is running a bit better. I'm filling it up tomorrow with some fresher gas. I know that my old Lincoln Town Car ran a little funny for the first tank after sitting for only three months while I went on deployment. The diesels seem to tolerate sitting much better.

I would say the chance of 8 year old gas being any good are pretty slim, but if you smell it, you can tell right away if it's good or not.

Get It Out!

I've had personal experience with gas 2 yrs. old. If it smells rotten it is.
If you run this thru the fuel lines and carb you will be spending more time and money than you can believe. It "varnishes" stuff- clogs jets., clogs the fuel line sender etc.
I had to replace a carb, fuel pump, clean out the sender in a car.
You might even have to replace a tank.
You are being penny wise and pound foolish my friend.
Brand new $4 gas is the best investment you could make!

Oh, I don't mind paying the $4 a gallon so much (like hell I don't) but more so the draining of it and getting rid of it really sucks.

That's what I'd do with it, just add a couple of gallons to each tankful until its gone. It reminds me of an old saying: "The solution to pollution is dilution".

Yeah, the only problem is finding enough places to store it!

No, no, no, no, no, no!

Do not ever put stale gas through your engine!

Among other things, it will varnish the valve stems and cause them to stick.

The result is always ugly, and expensive.
Don't ask me how I know this......

Dillute it and run it in your mower, your neighbor's mower, your friend's mower....
