Question installing 71 read light unites 68 280SL

This problem began when I ordered the factory later tailight unites to replace my all red unites. My reason was safety since I have two young children who ride with me on week end cruises to excersize the car and have some bonding and fun.

I first removed the left side since it is the easiest to get to. I removed the short left crome trim molding that connectes to the trunk lock chrome trim and tailight chrome bezel.

My problem began when I tried to install the new light assemblie. The chrome bezel fits fine, but as soon as you install the lens and rubber gasket I experience it hanging up being all the studs would not go through the holes.

I got one feed back that recommended filing out the holes, but since the chrome bezel fits fine I cannot understand that this would be the cure tothe problem?

Any comments would be appreciated.

Thank You
