1970 220d & 1972 220d
Does any body know if the interior from a 1972 220D will fit in a 1970 220D
I am looking at buying a 1972 220D with a bad engine. Everything on the in side is in good shape, all black. The engine is out of the car. The car has to much rust to keep on the road. I am also getting a 1973 220D standard hear soon, as soon as the seller gets the title squared away. I am assuming that it will make a good parts car for both the 1970 & 1973 220D. The guy wants 400.00 for the car. I have been trying to talk him down for a while now. I think 250.00 would be a good price. But I do not won’t the car to go to the scrap yard. Thanks Kevin

Straight change over. Very, very, minute changes in details. You would never notice the difference.

73 interior is different, still fits but a different pattern.
The 72 and 71 is a leather grain, the 73 is a pebble grain. The 73 front bumper is set a bit further away from the body, it's a mount difference. Otherwise, not much difference between the three cars. Jim

About the only important difference will be hole in front door cards for corner wing window crank, meaning you'll have to cut yer own hole if moving the '73 interior into '70 or '72.
Whacha doin - investing heavily in 220Diesels reconnoitring it beats puttin yer money practically anywhere else?? If the engine's decent in that '73 then the car's easily worth $350 at least. Pull the engine/tranny and salt shaker gorilla knob and those parts alone be worth an easy $750. |

Rather than getting the whole car 1972 220D I might just get the engine, salt shaker, gorilla knob, steering wheel no cracks, front seats very good, and any thing else I can get. I hate to see this car go to the scrap yard. Kevin

Don't forget the window regulators and motors, rear view mirror, glove box lid, defroster motor, heater core, tail light lenses, dome lights (if they're the old style chrome) and the chrome window rails.

Also door cards with map pockets intact? Save them pockets if plastic ears aint busted, they're on the 114/115 rare and endangered parts list. Ye gotta pull the cards to remove the pockets.

Not true, the 73 still had the vent windows. Jim
