Thumbs up

when i had my w115 i had swapped the automatic to a 4 speed from a 240d i put new clutch,240d flywheel, new pressure plate, new release and pilot bearings bolted up beautifully, but i did have to extend the ron on the slave cylinder about a half inch or it wouldnt actuate clutch at all..i was very happy with the results car 10x better, with much better acceleration actually was able to hit 100mph..and it didnt cause any driving vibration, sold the car but was to a friend of mine he's still driving it everywhere

You got a w115 240D up to 100mph? Without a diff swap it would technically be impossible....er improbable.

Nice. I just got a 75 300d with an auto and the 617.910 engine. Haven't taken it off trailer yet. I guess these engines have the starter on the correct side for a manual Tranny to bolt to it?. I have a 5 speed from a 1984 190 d. That's what I would like to try. Did you have to change the driveshaft?

Can you just use the auto flywheel if you drive easy or why do you need the manual flywheel?

I was under the impression that more recent transmissions (like your 5 speed) will not bolt up easily to a om617 engine. Hopefully I am wrong.

My 1987 300TD wagon was sold and my 2003 W210 E320 wagon was totaled (sheds tear).

Thanks. I could live with a four speed. I'm a bit away from doing anything. Am I right in that they changed the 617 engines later on so that a manual wouldn't bolt up to them? I remember when I I was investigating putting a manual in a 123 turbo diesel it couldn't be fine without modifying the bell housing with one with the starter on correct side- way more than I am capable of.
