190d engine swap

I have a 1958 190d with a sad engine. There is a rebuilt 190d engine out of a 1961-1964 car (the current owner claims) for sale locally. Are these swappable? I don't have any specific engine codes or anything but i will try to get more information.

My bump because you deserve answer and nobody's post slips to 2nd page without reply.

Does ponton 190Db have forward mounted sump? Does it also have forward mounted 3rd engine mount? These are discrepancies that could get in the way. Certainly bell housings will fit, though could be discrepancy in clutch throw requiring longer throw clutch slave.

Longblock should fit but you might need the old sump to clear pontoon subframe, plus the old engine mount arms. Interestingly 1960's 190D and 200D, heck the gasoline 190c interchange engines with 1968-76 220D and 240D. Could be Pontoons share this compatiability, though its yet to be proven here.

I'd go look them over very carefully. I imagine there is a good chance for it to work.

Ponton subframe wraps around the front of the engine, not under the pan, so that might not be an issue. But compare & measure to be certain.
The Ponton 190d was built until late '61, so one of those engines should fit OK. If the 'new' engine is from a 61 - 64 Fintail, the motor-mount setup is different. THe Fintail engines have aluminum motor-mout arms bolted on the middle side of the block, while the Ponton engines have steel motor-mount brackets bolted on the lower front of the block. However all of the later blocks I've seen (190, 220 OHC gassers) still had the holes in front that would accomodate the Ponton motor mounts - just make sure this engine has them, and they're threaded.

I don't want to hijack, but will a 190 gas engine from a ponton or finback fit in place of the sidevalve four in the early 180s?

Again, you'll ned to compare the motor-mounts. I'f the sidevalve tranny won't fit the OHC engine, you might consider transplanting the wholee later engine with it's tranny.
