That is why most guys index mark the nut..problem w/that on an old chassis is you are assuming the guy before you was correct....
The Manual says to loosen the nut 2 turns when disassembly/sliding of spines is required, so tightening two turns when reassembling would put you back to where it was originally...........

Thank you again, Arthur. The new transmission is in the car. I'll figure out appropriate torque once I get it back on its wheels and settle the driveshaft into place.
Pretty much nothing I've touched on this chassis makes me think the last guy was 'right', so I'll find a way to measure torque. -Zandr
