220Sb interior colour combination

Hi,

I recently acquired a 1962 220Sb, outside colour Ivory inside red. However the door panel sare half light bron and half black: WAS THIS THE ORIGINAL COMBINATION?

I just feel its a weird colour combination...but Im only the second owner and everything there is original.

It does not sound like its original. YOu just have to do some investigation and you can probably figure out which color was.

This link might be helpful: http://www.heckflosse.nl/incol4.htm

Some Pontoons had two color door cards, never seen em on fintails. Though black/faded to brown fixtures like window sills, handles, cranks and door posts makes em seem kinda two tone. BTW, do the door pockets on yer '62 also have folding lids? Thats how they were in '61. Meanwhile door card skin colors oughta match the seats. And one way to tell if you've got later version seats installed is by their texture. Porous 'MB-Tex' didnt appear until '64 or therabouts. Earlier massive vinyl upholstery was smooth. Also back around '61 if seats were leather then so were the door card skins on 220Sb.

One decent remedy would be vinyl/leather dye or colored spray coating to make em match. White on Red was very common color combo. And door cards are easily removed if you want to color em.

I think you what you are calling blue/gray is probably the gray interior that was available in '61. There are lots of great colors for the interior of your car. My opinion is DO NOT USE BLACK. Black is neutral and other colors will give your car much more character.

The Classic Center can probably help you. You will need to send proof of ownership and the VIN (ID #); then they will send a photo\scan of the original Data Card on your car along with an explanation of the codes.

I own an original 1961 220Sb that's in storage. Outside color cream, inside color red leather. Will go loook tomorrow and report back.

I know it's all original.
