w108 72 m116 280se 3.5 d-jet issue at high speeds?
Hi guys I am hoping that someone here has had a similar problem with their D-jet system....
The issue I have is that while she will idle nice & smooth and no miss, starts first shot, but when I take her on the hwy and at high speeds, I get at random slight hesitation or miss. I will keep the speed constant and at random times she will hesitate for a split second then back to normal? Its like there is loss of fuel/spark?? but only for a split second and as its random its hard to get it to do it while the mechanic is testing her I have put new plugs, wires, cleaned/tested TPS, fuel filter, points etc all the things I think could cause the problem but nothing has helped anyone else know what else this could be? I did read about cleaning the strainer in the tank, and also to reverse the pump by crossing the wires on the fuel pump so it pushes out any rubbish, is this ok to do?? Any more tips or anyone had the same issue would be great as this has realy got me frustrated. The funny thing is my mates m110 d-jet has a very similar problem but not as bad (for now)?? all the best BI |

How was the TPS tested? With key on, engine off you should hear very distinct ticks or clicks as you slowly rotate the throttle from rest to wide open. Any change in sound as its rotated means either a faulty TPS or the brass fingers on it are touching a dirty spot on the brass contacts. Remove its black cover and look at the TPS surface for burnt, discolored areas. Look at the brass fingers for distortion. Years ago I cleaned the surface with a pencil eraser. If the contact goes open at a particular angle of the TPS, a bank of injectors loose voltage. Have you cleaned and/or inspected the trigger points on the distributor shaft? as well.
