M116 and M117 injectors

My 1972 350SL 4.5L has blue injectors.

Manual says these could be:
0 280 150 015 - Injection valves without protective sleeve
0 280 150 024 - Injection valves with protective sleeve
0 280 150 036 - Injection valves with protective sleeve & double sealing ring

Protective sleeve is 000 987 19 45 (Don't know if I have these or not)

Injectors for M116 engine appear to have similar specs (380cc/min 37.3 lb/min, 76HP, Tested at 300 Kpa), but they are color coded Yellow. Ending numbers are 013, 022 & 034. Sleeve is 000 987 18 45.

Finally to my question :- Is it possible to use the M116 injectors in an M117 engine? If so, which protective sleeve would I use? I would like to buy a set of injectors as spares and there is a set of yellows available.

Anyone know what the difference IS between the yellow and blue?

Thanks for the link!

This shows that the M116 injectors have lower capacity than the M117. The other site I found showed them being the same!

This one say yellow M116 injectors have 254.1 g/min capacity and Blue M117 are 364.3 g/min. A bit surprising since HP of two engines is about same?

the M117 4.5 engine has a huge WOT enrichment.
that´s why you need those high flowing injectors.

0 280 150 036 are the ones in the 4.5. 024 will work as well.

Yes, that is what the manual says. It's just that someone was selling a set of unused yellow ones (034) on eBay for $80.00 and I was hoping they would work. Anyway, have abandoned that idea!

My '72 350sl (3.5 euro) has yellow injectors that I believe are original. It only has 101,000 miles on it and it doesn't look like they have been disturbed before.

You could have bought the 8 on eBay for $80.00 - saved you all that cleaning

My 350SL is the 4.5L one with blue injectors.

I looked at that auction and he had 8 for sale for $80 EACH (you had to specify the number of injectors you wanted). Text was a bit misleading.

I think I saw those (Auction 120280661589)- I thought it said the auction ended with 0 bids? I would have bid, but the cracking of the plastic bodies was what stopped me.

Must me tons of these going to the crushers from those early 70's cars.

If that was the case, it certainly was misleading. It said "Auction is for all 8 injectors, happy bidding." And starting bid was $80.00. But he pulled the auction anyway.

Yep two of them had cracks where the connectors were. The rest just looked dirty. The auction ended with no bids but the item has been sold to a shop member.
