1972 280se 4.5

Okay, guys, I know NOTHING about this car.....except there is one in the boneyard here.....and this is a boneyard that crushes cars FAST. If you need anything, please let me know. I pulled the rear tail lights, rear bumper, license plate lights, gas filler door (vacuum pod works), trunk badges, hub caps, front light trim, and trunk lock.

The front bumper, grille, hood ornament, and interior are pretty much intact.

Anyone need anything?

I would be interested in following:

Distributor complete
Injectors - pull as a set of 8 on rails.
Aux Air Valve

Can you get prices? PM me if you can.

If you are ambitious , grab the complete rear differential They are becoming worth big $$$ b/c of the rare ratio. [ 3:27]
I have seen 113 guys pay close to a grand lately.
Used to give them away until guys started to get hip to this ratio and it is only available on 108 chassis w/4.5.

Can you separate the diff from the axle? I have one in my shop that is a boat anchor, I can't sell it because it's too big.

Advertise it.

The casing is a larger size, so they want the complete axle assembly. They also want the parking brake cables... another reason to keep it complete is b/c many that do the change-over also want the added advantage of going from drum to disc rear brakes [ as in the 230sl] , so you would not want to break it up.
However, if you do, it is still a saleable item b/c the gear assem on 3:27 have a habit of pin/casing wear on the spider assembly, so some guys have a 3:27 that is in need of just the pumpkin for that reason..the slide joint and universal/spline shaft are also in demand.
I broke one up a few years ago for the exact reason you mention and a guy bought just the differential and slide assembly..it was easily shipped UPS in a wooden crate I made.
So, either way ..... they are getting scarce..like all those vintage parts are ...save those MFI pumps too........

What is an MFI pump? So, it sounds like IF I have the room, I should pull everything I can off of this car, right?

Not to change the subject, but what about the 1976 230se a few rows over at the same boneyard?

MFI will not be on that car.

MFI is "Mechanical Fuel Injection" and it is the Bosch injection pump on the IL-6 cyclinder injected engines.

You may want to grab the distrubutor on that one..I think there was a member right here on the Forum that was looking for one...it is a special dist b/c it has a seperate set of points for the FI [ which is EFI on that chassis].

I am sure you will get some request post .

Part help

I'm in desparate need of a lower right front seat rail (next to tranny hump). The one that sits on the floor of the car. Mine's broken, welding won't help (bearings long gone) and MB Classic has none.

Let me know.

Hello,

The single most valuable and easy to remove part on the car is the $2500.00 EFI computer. It is next to the radiator and can be used on most EFI cars of the era includint the early 450SLs. One 10mm nut, a scew on the plug and it unplugs.

I recently got one out of a parts car at the local "Pick and Pull" for $22.00 Pulling the 3.27 diff. is a lot more work and much harder to ship!

The electric fuel pumps on these models are also a nice item to salvage. They are compact, simple and can be used to replace the expensive fuel pumps on the earlier Mechanically injected MBs. They have the correct pressure and volume for the earlier cars but cannot be used on the CIS cars.

Isn't that the transistorized ignition (MB call it "Switchgear")that is on the driver's side wheel well, either inside or outside?

The "computer" that controls the fuel injection (ECU) is under the passenger side dash behind glove box on the SLs, not sure on 280SE but in same general area.

But both are worth picking if you can get them cheap before crushing!

Any luck getting the parts so far daw_two?
