Angry Gas Stolen! Locking Gas Cap Recommendation for 76 450 SE / W116?

My roommate had about $100 of gas stolen from his truck parked IN OUR DRIVEWAY last night. I want to get a locking gas cap put on ASAP on my Benz, 1976 450SE.

Does anyone have any recommendations or experience on using locking gas caps on vintage Mercedes?

Locking Mercedes gas caps

YES...get two keys and don't lose both of them in the same lifetime!

Call them:

Yeah,yeah... I know... No Mercedes Star..At that price...What do you want?

OOH!,OOH, Slap me with an old dead stinky mullet...He has the OEM type
with the STAR right under the "Knock Off"... $19.95 VS $49.95.

Security for all comers.

All of these cars should lock the lid through the central locking.

I removed the return spring on the W116 so that it always stays "locked" when the vaccum is present. I simply open the trunk and pull the actuator at the gas station so as not to have to worry that the tank lock is open when the vaccum surpasses the spring tension of the fuel door 5 days after the car is parked.

We have people here drilling holes through gas tanks. Seriously.

There was another case where some kids were burned very badly in a car around 4:00 AM in a trailer park, with some gallons of gas in the back seat, which caught fire after they lit up cigars while in the car.

Nice, nothing quite like getting "burned" by one's own theft...

gas cap key same as main?

I have a lockable gas cap on my 111 280SE coupe, but no key (some PO of course lost it) and the lock is also frozen.

Question: is the MB main key also supposed to work on the (original) lockable gas cap, or is that always a separate key?

Thanks,

Bert
