Talking 1967 - 250S Clock Repair

I am getting ready to change my ignition switch. While I am at it, I want to fix the clock. Does anyone know what goes wrong with these clocks? In addition, is there another fix? Like a "quartz" battery or something? I seem to have seen something in the past about a clock repair. Any info? Thanks.

its part of the ritual of becoming a benzhead, fixing a vintage clock, go ahead and give it a whirl, you can do it.

and then the great sound ( so much better than tic/tic) tic tic...ziiiip, tic tic

I cheated.

I sent my clock in with my speedo/odo and got it fixed at Palo Alto Speedometer. They cleaned it and replaced the capacitor : )

Keeps awesome time. Beyond the digital built into the aftermarket Alpine head in my daily driver, the clock in Ms. B is the best car clock I've encountered.

I think a '67 would have had a Kienzle mechanical clock

Some one may have replaced it with a Quartzeit unit that had the same form factor and elctical contacts, but I'm pretty sure that the original equipment on a '67 would have been the mechanical clock with the solenoid 'kicker' winder.

If its the original (mechanical Keinzel) - I fixed mine some time ago by gently using some fine emery cloth on the points- it's been "kicking" ever since.

Curiously, my '68 250S has a perfectly functional Keinzel. The '72 I'm working on doesn't have a functional clock.

But I've got a tach that will fit where the clock is, so I'll probably put that in the '68, and swap in the clock into the '72 if I can't revive that one.
