I recently bought a clean rock solid '67 230s. When I first got the car a couple of weeks ago, it would start with the key, but now it will only start by jumping the solenoid. I do have juice at the key, so is it the starter?. Also, it seems to need some fuel or starting fluid in the carbs to start, but once running, it will run fine. Any help would be great. Are all the leads secure on the starter solenoid?
The small lead is supplied with power From the key via a lead on the solenoid so it goes through a loop via the stater switch. Just hook a test light to the solenoid terminal and check that it lights up when the ignition key is activated.
Are the chokes working on the carbs?. If they are not working correctly you'll have problems starting. BUT before you start messing with the carbs get the ignition working perfectly first.

On these cars, it's common for the insulator part of the ignition switch to loosen in it's housng, causing loss of electrical contact.
Another thing to check, if this car has an automatic tranny, is the neutral-switch.

I forgot about that,and i'm in the middle of one right now. Make 100% sure the trans is in Park ,the linkage can sometimes be worn and not allow it to go right forward . You cab bridge the nuetral switch with a loop of wire .It should be on the fire wall on the drivers side above the shifter linkage .Make sure the hand brake is on hard so you don't start and drive without a driver!!!
