I clicked on the link for the 76 450Sl. It reminded me of a hybrid muscle car trying to be all things to whomever feels inclined to covet an AMG. I do like the building in the background and there was the odd thing about the whole scene with the 450. I was raised on the svelte, sweet, sophisticated MB's of the early 60's-specifically a 220se convertible. Even though the breed at the time was obviously leaning toward the new speed era on the horizon those cars and I include the 108 were from an era which was more old world, carriage like. I had a 60 220sb which rode like a couch in a living room-relaxed, heavy, competent.
If the 450SL on E-Bay has all of that combination wrapped inside and around it the owner would certainly enjoy the motherload; otherwise, in my most recent surf thru the 280SE page of EBay there was a nice 70 model with low miles-I think I would be inclined to lean toward the latter in the interest of a simpler and less worried way of getting there instead of riding the clutch and going for the next gear-but I'd still like to drive it and see how it compares to the 90's Corvette I owned for awhile.

I would question the logic of spending what must have been a great deal of money unless the PO got emotional and wanted to do something really unique with his 107. I like the way they look stock personally. I doubt they will get what they must have spent on the car. BTW-I think the pictures are great too-possibly the best I have ever seen on a Ebay listing. Portland is a beautiful city too.

I like it - it seems to be a very serious rebuild - but I'm not sure that I would have it. The stock SL has a kind of timeless look; the no-chrome, blacked out look has come and gone, but no doubt will come back again.

There's no way I would buy this car without a trip there first. I'd rather have so-so lighter metallic paint on a so-so body (like my 380SL) than "very good" solid black. Many new cars coming out of the factory look bad in black, between the panel waves and orange peel. Black is incredibly unforgiving of body and paint imperfections.

Look at how paper-thin those cross-drilled rotors are. I guarantee you that was done for aesthetics ONLY, they WILL warp on the very first moderatley hard stop, and on a hard stop probably warp to the point of cracking the calipers. I would trust those to stop my mountain bike and nothing heavier.

What is up with the rivets showing on the wheel arch? I find it hard to believe those would be stock on a 107. And is it just me or is that shifter really... TALL...

Crappy rust repair methinks.

Thinner than thin, huge distance from fin to fin.

I like it,If it were mine I would hunt down the correct wheels ( damn hard too Although I have four here) and put the original colour top back on ( deep red) . regarding the wheel house picture,Those aren't rivets under there,it's factory spot welds and the under coat looks factory original to me.
Some one asks why a 38,000 mile car would need to be restored..I just rebuilt a 58,000 mile car. It all depends on use and care over the last 40 years.
Is it a genuine AMG car or just another US dealer assembled AMG kit special ? .I have found that it's easy to pull the cam covers and look at the cam shaft ID to determine if a car is in fact the genuine thing. AMG marked everything and it's usually in places you cannot see.
As was also mentioned, the trans has been swapped for a 5 speed from the standard automatic. manual trans are always options on mercedes not the other way around.
The seats look like AMG items to me,totally different to regular W107's of that age.
Good find Al,got room for it ?

Nope, I just scored another 4 speed W114 280CE which I also have no space for.
Anyone want a cheap 59 Ford F100?
