Speed Control

The speed control my 1976 450SL will accelerate but it won't engage and hold. Does anyone had any suggestions how to proceed to diagnose this problem? Where is the speed sensor?

Do a "search" on this forum and I believe there are a couple of "DIY" articles on the cruise control amplifier.
