MB Paint Color in Spray Cans - Update

Team -

In summary, two thumbs up!

The DB 623 spray paint from www.paintscratch.com arrived yesterday, so painting the engine compartment on the 280C was my task for this afternoon.

I finished masking, cleaned everything up with lacquer thinner and followed the directions, applying a thin first coat and then a thicker second coat about 30 minutes later.

The paint is designed to be used with a clear coat, so the color coat is kind of dull. About 2 hours after the second coat, I applied a thin coat of clear, followed by a thicker one when the first had become tacky. That added the gloss.

I have got to say that even though I am a klutz with a can of spray paint, the results were quite good. The color and shine were very close to the paint on the fenders. Coverage was fine. It took about 2/3 of a can to do both inner fenders.

The only down side is that now that the paintwork looks so good, I have in fact raised the bar and need to do some more work on the other components like the brake booster.

Will put some pictures out ASAP.

Chuck

Chuck,

I'll be interested in seeing your pictures. I've got a couple of cars (Volvos) that need some touch up work. Wouldn't touch the Benz without some practice first.

Chuck!

I have a couple (few!) small-ish spots (areas!) that have been previously repaired on my car. They did an ok job, but they used FLAT BLACK PAINT!!! (My car is GREEN!)

Would you consider using this spray on an EXTERIOR part of the car??

I don't think I could make my "spots" look any worse!

Thumbs up

One more Idea: Most auto paintshops will have (1) paint color manuals and (2) can scan a paint sample to match it. They use an optical color scanner to mix an exact match. I have never used it on the MB, but I've matched other paints before through a local paintshop and it really is amazing.

Some places will even put it in a spraycan for you, though I've never done this either.

Christy -

I would definitely try it on the exterior. I have a spot on the driver's door of the 280C where it was keyed, so I don't think I can make it worse - same boat as you - so I am going to try.

Be sure you get the clear coat so you get a shine!
