If it was the crank seal spring where's the rest of it? Wouldn't the rest of it pop off also? I think Viper has a point. Possible a small spring was in a oil bucket and got poured into the engine.

This is what the seal looks like if it is a radial lip seal. The front seal should be, the rear may or may not be a radial lip type.

Your spring could be from a botched replacement that drove the old spring into the engine during removal or popped the new spring into the engine when the seal was installed.

If the lip wears enough, it is possible for the spring to come off.

I looked at the spring again and it looks like it broke off, so somewhere inside the motor is the rest of it.
