W123 rotor replacement

MY brake pad light has flashed at my a few times in the past week, so I guess I need to replace the pads sometime, probably do it next month. I gguess I should replace the rotors while im at it. So, how do the rotors come off, I bet they don't just slide off like they do on GM cars? Im not looking to re-pack the the bearings either as I think that was done a few years ago. So what all is involved to get the rotor off after I get the caliper off? Thanks

I would repack your bearings anyway. You need to clean everything out when you do the job since you need to remove the rotor from the hub. Dirt can get in there easily.

I might repack them. So once I get the cap off and the 5mm allen bolts off the rotor should slide off? Thanks

The 5mm is the bolt that holds the nut on the spindle. The rotor bolts are 8mm hex head. Make sure you have some blue loc-tite for the hub bolts and caliper bolts.

why dont you just put new bearings and races in... I think it cost me like.. $35 for a new set for the front.... I did that when I did my front suspension rebuild.

figured.. well seeing as im tearing into it and the rotor will be off I might as well put new ones in since who knows when the last time they were serviced or I will service them.. 4 years later and still trucking.


Plus I still have the big tub of synthetic bearing grease(for disc brakes) that will last me my life and I only spend $6 on it

Thanks TD, I don't know if i'll replace them but i'll probably re-pack them at the least.
