Had that happen to my W108, The dealership sells the assembly for about $60. Well worth every penny.

Won't it be leaking oil all over though?

Nah, it doesn't leak, it shoots oil in a stream!

It's parked in my workshop and the keys are put away to prevent the geyser. I'm going over to the local MB dealer to order the line today.

Guess it's a good time to get that glovebox re-installed and the wood refinished.

Got the oil line, installed it and am in the process of restoring the dash wood.

I'll be installing a new steering coupler, new gearbox mounting bolts, POR-15'ing the frame rail and doing a re-spray of the rust-proofing/sound deadener on the driver's side (LH) inner fenderwell.

Should be an easy weekend but let's see what I manage to break.

Busy weekend! I sold another car! woo hoo! the 500SLC has been sold to a gentleman and enthusiast in Florida. Saturday, I plan to finish my seat cleaning experiment, install the self leveling control arm on the CA spec 6.9 and also put a new thermostat in.

Then, I'm going to switch the chrome wheels back on the 500slc as the new owner wants them and make another attempt to fix the lift.

I'd want to finish removing the rear sub-frame and axle from the 450SL, install new tie rods and upper control arms on the 300SD, and do a little trouble shooting on the 300SD ABS while I'm in there (the fault light comes on occasionally).

Unfortunately the temperature dropped about 20 degrees here in the last few days so it is not going to be as much fun as it would have been last weekend.

My plans are:
Replace the starter on my 300M
Remove the headliner on my Jeep, glue, reinstall
Replace a tie rod end on the Jeep, inspect the track bar
Bondo Jeep if possible, get it ready for rhino liner undercoating
Non-car stuff (fix plug for fryer, re-wire antique waffle maker etc)

We'll see how much I can actually get done. With no lift the starter on the 300M is a PITA, and I have to remove the engine mount or the catalytic converter to get clearance to get it out (it will not come out of the bellhousing by about 1/4" because it's too long to move past either of the above).

This weekend went pretty well. I went back over the back seat with meltonian and then buffed and sealed it with meguires leather protector.

The rest of Saturday was spent switching out the wheels on the 500slc as the new owner requested the 16 inch chrome lorinsers that came with the car. This is fine with me as I like bundts and could always use spares.

Today I continued to work on the Canada spec 6.9. The car was overheating in traffic which had me concerned. The auxiliary fan would not engage. I had the same issue with my US spec 6.9 so I am familiar with the problem. This was a fairly easy job. I also tightened the bolts around the suspension pump as it was leaking slightly.

The rest of the day was spent working on the lift. I bought a rotery phase converter which is more suitable for continuous use applications. Again the lift will raise but not lower. I ended up oiling the gearbox and greasing all of the grease points. There is some issue with binding within the gearbox which is causing the motor to trip the breaker when lowering the lift. However after a certain point, the binding stops and the lift moves quickly.

This is good as I now know that the issue is not with the motor. I'm almost certain it's an alignment issue and will continue to work on it.

finally, I've listed a few more parts on eBay that may be useful to someone on this forum.

Check it out: http://motors.shop.ebay.com/merchant/aalabbasi

While i'm on a sales streak i may sell another car. Maybe my US 6.9 or the blue 280CE. I have this urge to get down to less then 10 cars.

The best laid plans..

I managed to get my starter done on my 300M. By the time I got back to my apartment and had lunch, I started to tear down the liner on my Jeep and it was getting dark. I got one of the rear seatbelt mounts off, but the other one stripped out internally so I need to probably use the dremel to make a hex head on it, then hammer a socket over it for removal.

On Sunday, frustrated with the Jeep, I took my 300M to my parents' house and "Borrowed" their electricity to polish it with the buffer. Washed, polished, washed again to remove the excess polish that didn't all wipe off. It looks amazing now, I need to do this on my Jeep! It's so shiny! That took a whopping 5 hours (with liberal breaks in between for football and the race, and lunch).

At least you got some work done. I know of two other 6.9 owners that need to get on with their restoration. I'm not mentioning you names.. but you know who you are.

Man ,you've got one rusty SL there. When the sills/rockers go like that in front I always look up in the footwells behind the dash. There is a box section there which rusts really badly inside ,out of sight. The water eventually finds it's way into the car and rots the floors followed by the rockers. Up in the wheel house you can see the box section and it can be identified by the two rubber bungs in the forward part . Those bungs sometimes fall out and let water in.making things worse.
I have a friend here in Brisbane who has a 280 SL (1979) with a full AMG refit. A very rare conversion ,it was originally sold new in Hong Kong.

OK now that the weekend is here, this is what I have planned.

1) finish installing the anchors for my lift. Do a bit of clean up in the garage as it looks like a bomb hit the place. Move the 280CE over the lift and attempt to raise it.
2) Clean up the 220v wiring to the lift.
3) I've already replaced the plug wires, plugs and rotor on my 79 Ikon Gold 450SLC 5.0. I plan to replace the coil and clean the injectors.
4) Clean the 450SLC 5.0 complete the speaker installation (the car never came with speakers).
5). Paint the alloys on my two 6.9 (both are nasty).
6). Pull the trim from the 350SLC and see if it's usable on the 450SLC.

Let's see how I come along.
