'73 450sl Heating Levers Removal??
I need to remove the heating/ventilation levers but nobody except one person gave me advise. I need to know if he's right in removing these levers. A service forman at the local MB dealer said that you just pull on them and they will come out. Well... I don't want to break these darn things but is this true??? HELP

I have installed them in a SLC a couple of years back and it was difficult. Just recently I pulled a working set out of a 73 450 sel. The lower panels on the dash had to come out. Then the console, then undo the fan and ac switch from the face plate and pull out the ashtray since there is a bolt behind there. There will be two or three 10mm (head size) bolts that hold each switch to the dash and a nut on each side that connects from a actuator rod to the heater/defroster flaps. Be careful when undoing the vacum lines since the plastic tubes break easily. Basically if you can't pull something off with your fingertips look at it again. Oh yeah the knobs on the levers themselves do just pull off.
Let us know how it goes and any suggestions of your own. I have to do a set on 10/16.
