Smile 67' 250S Carburetor question

I rebuilt the carbs on my 250s, and I have a leaky fuel return valve. Can I plug that hole, and run the car without it? Just askin. It seems the car runs till the carbs run out of gas, and then it dies. I think that fuel return valve is messed up. This is the second 1 I put on as well. Any ideas? THanks.

You can probably find something to plug it, but I don't recommend doing that. If your second attempt at fixing it still leaks, maybe you have the wrong gasket? Dig around the repair kit and locate the fiber washers in the right diameter. If you cannot locate them, go to Ace in their specialty section with all the boxes of stuff. They have fiber gaskets. The fiber based gaskets are much easier to get tight and they will seal properly. The copper gaskets are a bear to get tight enough to seal on the return valve. Also, make sure the valve itself is tight; it comes apart and there is a gasket inside it. The housing is staked to hold it tight, but it may be loose.
